The only option I have open to me if I want to get the 51d0 working is to buy a PC! OSX can see the device but it doesn't recognize it as a new port. So it would seem the situation ought to be better than the one considered in this thread, but actually it seems the anyfata.
If it's not working on PC then they have to give you replacement unit without argues.
